The point I want to make is that we saw the time when people waited for 15-20 days for getting their landline number and sat near the silent instrument in anticipation of its first ring and boy didn’t their faces lit up when it really did (though after a huge gap of about 20 days if not worse).
And we were also there to witness the brief stint of Pagers before these Mobile Phones swept the whole world. Not only this but the Computers too have changed the world scene drastically. You might be prompted to conclude (which comes naturally to our generation u know “JUMPING TO A CONCLUSION”) that I am writing an essay on the development on science and technology but that would mean u have missed my point completely.
What I want to say is that all that I mentioned above has taken place in a period of 6 to 7 years and we are fortunate to be in a position to appreciate the great leap ahead in such a short time.
The generations to which our parents belong are having a real hard time trying to keep up with the latest features these technologies offers and they can’t be blamed! The interesting thing here is that the people who are junior to us by say 5 years are saying what’s the ‘Big Deal’. This is because they did not have the privilege to witness the metamorphosis.
Not only this there is another thing in them that I find in sharp contrast to us and that is like a litmus paper test that even u can do to tell the difference between them and us. We were just mad about cricket and took it seriously too. Who would want to step out in the hot sun of summers in rajasthan by will but at that time too we could be tracked to the museum ground playing cricket, we felt the heat too but we loved it, it was our passion you see! Today guys have become (as shahrukh khan would say) metrosexuals. They are more worried about getting their looks and attire right even while playing. The difference shows on the road too, if we would be three friends going to the ground to play or to a buddy’s place then two of them would leave their bikes and go together tripling to the destination but today the scene is like all the three guys would take their bikes along so that’s three bikes for three people! So basically it’s the ‘SHOWOFF’ that rules their psyche. It’s not that we didn’t ride bikes but it’s the complete change in attitude that’s visible. It’s fun to watch them, just look at them and u will know which bollywood hunk he’s copying.

Transformed bikes, stylish haircuts, expensive mobiles, style accessories are the things needed to characterize them. They have their own definitions of ‘fun’. And not only boys this applies equally to the girls and if boys are trying to woo them, they are very smart I tell u and handle these boys very well I must say. There is one very peculiar thing I have noticed and that is regarding the number of girls u see today. I for instance had tuitions from as early as 5:30 in the morning to 7:30 in the evening but the roads were devoid of girls. It’s not that I rue this fact but it is just that I am surprised to see the sudden upsurge in their numbers, I just wonder if all of them were sitting locked in their houses for this period. Weird!!
Well if u ask what’s my take on this I would say:-
This is one more change that my generation has seen in a short span!!!
-----------

- The place discussed is the city of Bikaner.
- This piece of writing is dedicated to my best friend Shashank.

Barun Chakravarty
Owner
Small b Productions
